Why practice meditation?
There are many different types of meditation that are currently marketed to interested patrons- those people wanting to take a break from their hectic lives and regain control of their frantic mind.
Meditation is a way to calm the thoughts and to prevent oneself from getting caught up in every mental event that takes place in the mind.
Many people play out different scenarios in their mind all day long. These can range from positive outcomes, to negatively implicated events, being late to a meeting, messing up a speech etc. At some point, playing out negative thoughts in the mind begins to have a negative effect on the actual outcome of events, or on the mental quality of life of the person. The person begins to feel anxiety or stress over future events that haven’t even happened yet. In this case, the mind has truly taken over. This is the perfect time to turn to meditation.
Forms of meditation
There are various forms of meditation that are practiced in order to clear the mind of its “jumpiness” and from “mental clutter.” Some of these practices are more passive, including meditation in which a person will try to release any thoughts that come to the mind and keep the mind as clear as possible. The recommended time for this type of meditation is 20 minutes, twice a day if possible. This can be effective for many people, although some people do prefer to participate in a more active meditation process. One form of meditation that can feel more engaging for some people is Theta wave meditation.
Theta waves are the brain waves that are experienced during the Theta cycle of rest. During this period, brain waves are moving at a rate of about 4-7 times per second. This is the second slowest brain wave cycle, second only to Delta, in which the person is in a non-dreaming sleep. The Theta cycle is extremely conducive to meditation, because it allows relaxation of the mind and body in order to truly reach into the depths of the mind past the conscious and into the subconscious.
Benefits of Theta Meditation
- When the brain is in Theta, it is possible to receive ideas and information from the penetrated subconscious mind.
- Theta is associated with creativity, and people who spend time in Theta can benefit from greater intuition and clarity.
- The Theta state allows for deep concentration and for openness to new ideas and opportunities.
- In Theta, the mind does not judge the thoughts, but instead lets them flow forth as dreams and possibilities.
- Theta is often used for reprogramming and for manifesting new opportunities in a person’s life.
In the Theta state, it is possible to deeply visualize a positive outcome to a situation, or a new lifestyle change that a person would like to make. Those in the Theta state can clearly envision the change they would like to make, and can come back to this vision repeatedly in Theta in order to begin implementation of the change.
Now, this change does not simply occur after visiting the Theta state once or twice. People generally conduct Theta meditation once or more per day for at least 30 days in order to truly experience the benefits. People who spend time in Theta regularly can often gain insight into their core ideals, and can begin to align with their true soul nature. Visiting Theta can clear the mind so that the truest beliefs and desires can come forth and be recognized.
There are different ways to access the Theta state:
- Theta Wave Recoding: One of the more popular ways is to listen to a Theta wave recording. These recordings are audio recordings that need to be listened to using headphones. These recordings come in both guided and non-guided styles.
- Guided Theta Meditations: These are a great way for beginners to be introduced to visualization during Theta. Often they will lead the person through a mental journey in order to help them visualize their desires. The sound frequencies in the background will allow the person to quickly enter the Theta state.
- Non-guided Theta Meditations: generally consist of music and Theta frequencies only.
As with all wellness practices, it is best to use whatever style makes an individual feel most comfortable and secure.
Theta meditation is a wonderful way to access the deepest desires of the soul and inner being, and begin to manifest them and integrate them into daily life.
**Theta meditation promotes deep relaxation, so it should not be done while operating a vehicle or while performing other tasks that require focus and attention.
